The Reading Intervention Teacher is responsible for teaching students who have been identified as struggling readers. Teaching Reading includes being aware of the Florida State Standards as per the grade level of the student being taught. It also includes awareness of the Academy’s adopted curriculum for reference; however, a successful Reading Intervention Teacher will be able to develop and adapt her/his own curriculum based on the individual needs of the students, empirical data, and professional experience. The Reading Intervention Teacher shares responsibility for the academic success of students.

The Reading Intervention Teacher is responsible for implementing an effective reading intervention program with identified below-grade-level students. This can be accomplished as follows:
1. Submits weekly lesson plans.
2. Utilizes a variety of materials, teaching methods, and high academic standards, including the administration of various types of assessments.
3. Documents student attendance.
4. Documents results of any diagnostic testing completed and/or progress monitoring.
5. Completes appropriate paperwork and communicates results of interventions to appropriate stakeholders, including parents.
6. Collaborates with classroom teachers on a regular basis.
7. Recognizes the need for continuous self-evaluation, continuous improvement, and willingness to learn on the job.
Furthermore, it is expected that the Reading Intervention Teacher will be able to work in a team with the rest of the teachers in order to integrate the curriculum. Familiarity with the academy’s reading curriculum and support programs, including software-based programs, is expected. A successful Reading Intervention Teacher will be able to work with students of diverse backgrounds by addressing their language development needs and cultural assets and barriers to learning.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform duties satisfactorily while exercising independent judgment, initiative, and creativity in order to implement all job duties. Maintain professional standards.
Contribute to RtI/MTSS meetings on students that this teacher works with.
Complete RtI/MTSS paperwork related to interventions of students served.
Be willing to attend trainings and workshops that will enhance his/her ability to serve the target population of students.
Attend monthly parent meetings if needed, and be willing to work occasionally beyond the regular workday.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Ability to work with degreed and non-degreed professional staff and families.
Experience working with economically disadvantaged students. Possess a Reading Endorsement on a Florida Teaching Certificate, or be willing to work towards obtaining this Endorsement within 3 months of employment.
