About the Role

As a Kindergarten Teacher at Van Avery Prep, you will play a critical role in shaping students’ earliest academic experiences while building strong foundations in literacy, mathematics, and social-emotional development. You will create a warm, structured, and engaging classroom where students develop confidence, independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning. Through developmentally appropriate instruction, purposeful exploration, collaborative learning, and meaningful projects, you will help students strengthen foundational academic skills, build positive relationships, and become thoughtful, responsible members of the classroom community. You Will... Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons across kindergarten language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies Build foundational literacy skills through explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and early writing Develop students’ mathematical understanding through number sense, patterns, operations, problem-solving, and hands-on exploration Establish clear classroom routines and expectations that promote independence, responsibility, and a nurturing learning environment Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral growth through positive reinforcement, modeling, and developmentally appropriate guidance Differentiate instruction, materials, and support to meet varying academic needs, learning styles, and levels of readiness Assess student progress, maintain accurate records, provide constructive feedback, and adjust instruction based on individual learning needs Communicate consistently with families regarding student progress, classroom expectations, accomplishments, and areas for continued growth Collaborate with fellow teachers, specialists, and school leadership to provide a cohesive and enriching educational experience Maintain an organized classroom, supervise students responsibly, and follow all school policies and health and safety procedures What We Are Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Education, Child Development, or a related field from an accredited institution California teaching credential preferred Prior experience teaching kindergarten or another early elementary grade preferred Strong knowledge of foundational literacy, early writing development, elementary mathematics, and developmentally appropriate instructional practices Ability to differentiate instruction and support students with varying academic needs and levels of readiness Strong classroom management, communication, organization, and interpersonal skills Ability to build positive relationships and communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership Commitment to creating an inclusive, academically engaging classroom that supports student confidence, independence, and a love of learning Ability to pass a state and federal background check To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field, with a California teaching credential preferred. Strong knowledge of early elementary instructional practices and the ability to pass a background check are required.
