Responsibilities

Coordinates, in collaboration with the Sports Program Coordinator, the planning and implementation of the AWARE Special Olympics program throughout the State of Montana. Supports fundraising efforts and seek sources of funding to support athlete participation in events. Supports volunteer, coaches and staff orientation and training to take part in Special Olympics. Provide education and resources to AWARE athletes to support their personal goals. Assist in coordination of AWARE’s Special Olympics teams and team practices throughout Montana. Support athletes and teams in attending all special events and games across the State of Montana. Promote Therapeutic Recreation Services and AWARE Special Olympics both internally and externally. Provide TR interventions to assigned caseload in a timely basis following policy and procedures. Ability to, under AWARE’s Unconditional Care Philosophy, implement individual support plans with the knowledge of behavioral techniques, interventions, skill building techniques, and understanding of the emotional and behavioral needs of individuals diagnosed with a disability. Requires computer literacy skills, including the ability to navigate, record, and overall basic computer skills needed for performance-based software as well as an electronic medical records system. Requires knowledge of Special Olympics, activity and event programming skills and abilities, staff training and development, knowledge of disabling conditions across the life span, sports and recreation fundamentals, and providing technical assistance using a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures. Also requires good oral and written communication skills and an ability to form relationships with a diverse group of people.

Requirements

Talents, skills, and abilities

BA/BS Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Human Services, Education, or related field, along with one (1) year of experience providing services such as professional care giving, adult case management, sports/ recreation management, education and/or training. Ability to work in a variety of settings. Applicant with (2) two or more years experience programming and providing services to individuals with a disabling condition in a human health setting may be considered. Applicants with five (5) or more years experience programming and providing services to Individuals with a disabling condition in a human health setting may be considered. Must have or be willing to obtain a valid Montana Driver's License, with an acceptable driving record. Must pass a criminal and protective services background check.
