The counselor provides direct supervision to children in a summer day camp setting while implementing developmentally appropriate activities. They are responsible for maintaining safety standards, fostering YMCA core values, and serving as a positive role model for participants.
Provides direct supervision of a group of children in a seasonal day camp. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. Essential Functions: 1. Supervise participants in the summer day camp programs. 2. Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values. 3. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards and record participant counts and reports any incidents to a supervisor. 4. Inspect activity areas; ensure no hazards are present. Set boundaries to ensure the safety and well being of the participants. 5. Ensure that respect for the backgrounds, and needs of all participant and staff are integrated into both program planning and implementation. 6. Maintain positive role model and attitude. 7. Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor. 8. Maintain open lines of communication with participants, staff and supervisor. 9. 1. Must be 18 years of age or older. 2. High school diploma or equivalent required. 3. Completion of camp training session and CPR/First Aid certification required. 4. Criminal Clearance: including Fingerprints 5. Health Exam to include Negative TB test and Negative drug test screening. 6. Complete al required training(s). 7. Previous experience with diverse populations. 8. Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities. 9.
