The paraprofessional provides individualized academic and behavioral support to students with disabilities while implementing IEPs and Behavior Intervention Plans. They also collaborate with teachers and families to document student progress and foster a supportive learning environment.

Job Description

The Special Education Paraprofessional is a key member of the Exceptional Student Services team and a champion for students with disabilities. This individual provides individualized academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support for students with mild to moderate disabilities across a variety of school settings.

The paraprofessional supports the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and other individualized support plans with fidelity. This role helps students strengthen their academic skills, decrease behaviors that interfere with learning, and develop greater self-advocacy and self-regulation. The paraprofessional collaborates closely with special education teachers, general education teachers, related service providers, families, and administrators and is directly supervised by the Director of Special Education.

Job Responsibilities Provide individualized, highly targeted academic and behavioral support to students with mild to moderate disabilities in general education classrooms, small groups, and unstructured settings such as lunch and recess.

Implement IEP accommodations, Behavior Intervention Plans, and individualized student support plans with consistency and fidelity.

Support students in developing self-advocacy, coping, and self-regulation skills, including providing scheduled or responsive regulation breaks.

Collect and document academic, behavioral, and IEP-related data to help the team monitor student progress and adjust supports.

Collaborate with special education teachers, general education teachers, related service providers, families, and administrators to support student success.

Participate in regular team meetings and professional development related to student progress, instructional practices, and support needs.

Maintain clear, professional communication with families, service providers, and Vega staff.

Contribute to a collaborative and supportive team environment that promotes respect, consistency, and continuous improvement.

Ideal Qualifications (preferred, not required) Bachelor’s or associate degree Previous experience supporting children or adolescents with disabilities Experience working in an urban public school Second-language skills

Minimum Physical Requirements Ability to walk quickly, bend, kneel, crouch, sit, stand, and grasp or hold with one or both hands Ability to lift up to 40 pounds without difficulty Ability to sit or stand for extended periods Ability to respond quickly and safely to students who require behavioral, physical, or mobility support

Salary and Benefits Vega Collegiate Academy offers a competitive salary and comprehensive health benefits package. Salary range for this position is $30,000 - $60,000. Compensation will follow the Vega Collegiate Academy salary schedule.

Start Date This position can have an immediate start date during the 2026-27 school year.
