  • Organization: The Police Athletic League (or PAL) is New York City’s largest independent youth development organization. We operate diverse programs from Head Start, Day Car and Universal Pre-K programs; to elementary and middle school after-school programs, summer day camps and summer Playstreets. We run evening teen centers and college readiness programs, as well as youth employment and juvenile justice programs. In its over a century of service, PAL is continuing its evolution and remains a vibrant and vital New York City institution.

Position: SNL Coach

Position Summary

The Saturday Night Lights (SNL) Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and leading safe, engaging, and age-appropriate athletic instruction for youth participating in PAL's Saturday Night Lights program. Coaches serve as positive role models by fostering teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyles while creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants. Duties and Responsibilities

Plan and lead structured sports practices, drills, games, and recreational activities. Teach sport-specific skills while emphasizing teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship. Supervise participants at all times and ensure their safety during all program activities. Create an inclusive environment that encourages participation, personal growth, and positive youth development. Maintain appropriate behavior expectations and address conflicts in accordance with PAL policies. Inspect athletic equipment and playing areas before and after activities, reporting any safety concerns immediately. Maintain accurate attendance records and complete all required program documentation. Communicate effectively with Program Directors, Assistant Directors, and other program staff regarding participant needs and program operations. Assist with tournaments, special events, field trips, and community engagement activities as assigned. Respond appropriately to emergencies and behavioral incidents in accordance with PAL policies and procedures. Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions. Perform other duties as assigned. QualificationsQualifications Education High school diploma or GED required. College coursework in Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Management, Education, or a related field preferred. Experience Experience coaching youth sports or leading recreational athletic programs required. Experience working with children and adolescents in a school, recreation, or community-based setting preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the rules, techniques, and fundamentals of the assigned sport(s). Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate and engage youth from diverse backgrounds. Ability to maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, families, and community partners.

Requirements
