Job Title: Digital Skills Instructor

Reports To: Career Resources Manager

Status: Non-Exempt/Full-Time (days first); or Non-Exempt/Part-time (evenings)

This position is responsible for providing computer skills training and support functions related to computer applications and computer hardware. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, classroom instruction and training in computer skills, developing curriculum to address participant and program needs, and continued enhancement and review of existing technology classes.

Duties: and Responsibilities:

All job functions are to be performed following safety guidelines and regulations

Facilitate Microsoft Office applications in a structured group setting.

Works with the Career Resources Manager to develop classes in response to demonstrated needs.

Conduct research to determine appropriate and affordable instructional materials for various student populations.

Display confidence and tact and maintain optimal learning environment for individuals with differing personalities, learning styles, modalities, and levels of expertise.

Initiate array of tasks associated with the operation of the computer skills training program.

Manage and prioritize multiple projects.

Conduct classes by prioritizing participants’ needs, (Rescheduling or canceling classes only when absolutely necessary, tailoring instructions to the level of the student, and working with other departmental staff, etc.)

Monitor supply of instructional materials and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies. Request supplies as needed.

Maintain records and prepare reports as directed by supervisor including, but not limited to: attendance, student progress, case notes, customer satisfaction, and software applications.

Provide excellent customer service to both external and internal customers.

Must have patience and work with enthusiasm.

Effectively market Computer Skills training services.

Teach individuals at all levels of experience from beginning to advanced computer skills.

Design and implement performance-based handouts/materials.

Demonstrate professional conduct and good work habits.

Enter participant attendance into the database, and update records as needed.

Report recommendations to other team members and obtain feedback.

Establish professional relationships with participants and their supports to ensure continuous progress.

Attend job fairs and community events as needed.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and/or Experience

  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred.
  • Two years of college with demonstrated technical expertise with PCs and software.
  • Experience in classroom instruction or experience in training groups of people preferred.
  • Must have experience with Windows operating system.
  • Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office and able to pass NorthStar Assessments
  • Must keep up with current computer advancements, uses and changes with the intent of training others.

  • Must be able to provide guidance, assistance, and feedback to participants in a group or individual setting.
  • Ability to interpret and explain a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must have a strong interpersonal, collaborative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work independently, with others, and as part of a team.
  • Must have valid Texas driver’s license, proof of liability, and good driving record to obtain auto insurance coverage
  • Ability to travel and drive inside the Goodwill territory and abide by all procedures pertaining to the use of a company vehicle.

  • Light office work, such as typing, speaking on the phone, and using a computer to enter data.
  • Must be able to sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement to type and work on computer.
  • Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on computer, telephone, and related office equipment.
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
  • Be able to travel as needed.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential job function.
