Academic Guide (Carrollton, TX, Full-Time)

Practice for this role

About the role

The Academic Guide will support student-athletes by keeping them focused, on-task, and engaged with their learning platform during academic hours. They are responsible for tracking student progress, providing direct feedback, and maintaining a productive, high-standard learning environment.

vAbout the Role Texas Sports Academy is a K-12 school designed for serious student-athletes who want both elite academics and high-level athletic development.

Students cover 2x the material in just 2 hours a day, using the same 2-Hour Learning model as Alpha Schools.

That frees up their entire afternoon for serious training, where they work alongside former pro and D1 athletes coaching them at the highest standard.

We are hiring two Academic Guides to support our student-athletes through the school day.

You sit alongside a small group of students during their academic hours, hold the standard on focus and effort, and help them stay engaged and moving through their learning.

You are the steady adult in their day: the person keeping them on task, catching where they are stuck, and making sure they end the day further ahead than they started.

What You'll Do Guide Students Through Their Academic Day: Sit with a small group of student-athletes during their academic hours, keep them focused and on task, and help them move through their learning at pace.

Support Their Learning: Help students navigate the learning platform, work through hard material, and build the study and time-management habits that carry them forward.

Hold the Standard on Focus and Effort: Give direct feedback when it is needed and real praise when it is earned.

Do not let students coast.

Track Progress: Know where each of your students is, what they are stuck on, and what they need next.

Keep clean notes and flag concerns early.

Communicate With the Team: Give the academic and athletic team clear, honest updates on how students are doing so nobody is guessing.

Create a Serious, Warm Learning Environment: Set the tone in the room.

Keep it focused, keep it high-standards, and keep it a place students want to be.

Two to Four Years Working With Students Academically: You have taught, tutored, guided, or led students in an academic setting for at least two years.

Classroom, learning pod, tutoring center, after-school program, or similar.

Judgment With Kids: You know how to earn trust with a student, hold the standard, give direct feedback, and read the room when something is off.

Strong Communicator: You are clear and steady with students, comfortable running a small group, and able to give parents and staff useful updates in writing.

Reliable and Organized: You show up on time, follow through, and keep track of what each of your students needs next.

Patient and Direct: You can slow down when a student is stuck, and you do not lower the bar to make things easier.

Location and Setup: Based at our Carrollton, TX campus full-time, with occasional work at our Parker campus.

U.S. work authorization required.

Bonus Points Teaching or Tutoring Credentials: You have a teaching background, a teaching certificate, or formal tutoring experience.

Experience With Self-Paced or Adaptive Learning: You have worked with platforms like Khan Academy, IXL, ALEKS, or similar and understand how to guide students through them.

Athletics Background: You have coached, played, or worked around serious youth sports and understand the student-athlete experience.

Bilingual (English/Spanish): You can communicate with Spanish-speaking students and families directly.
