GBX Consultants, Inc. is accepting resumes for a full-time Center Mental Health Counselor. The Center Mental Health Counselor (CMHC) is a key member of the Job Corps Mental Health and Wellness Program (MHWP) and provides mental health assessments for applicants and students to examine mood, behavior, thinking, reasoning and other areas related to emotional wellness. The general emphasis of the MHWP is on the early identification and diagnosis of mental health problems; basic mental health care; and mental health promotion, prevention, and education designed to help students overcome barriers to employability. The program utilizes an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) approach that includes short-term therapy with an employability focus, referral to center support groups, and crisis intervention (such as suicidal behavior, death, serious loss, sexual assault, an emotional reaction to an HIV positive test, or other crisis).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide assessment and recommendations for Job Corps applicants.

Coordinate a mental health, promotion and education component for Job Corps staff and student.

Make recommendations for care, management plans, and accommodations for students with chronic mental health conditions.

Participate in Disability Accommodations Committee (DAC) meetings.

Participate in the management of, and provide written diagnoses for, a chronic care management plan for students with chronic conditions/disability related to mental health conditions.

Record all mental health documentation, such as, diagnosis, treatment and management plans, medication, reason of denial into the program (if recommended).

Determine when a Medical Separation with Reinstatement Rights (MSWR) is appropriate and recommended for students with mental health conditions and/or substance use co-occurring conditions.

Collaborate with Health and Wellness Director and Center Physician in the monitoring of students on psychotropic medications.

Collaborate with Alcohol and Drug Counselor regarding support and intervention needs of students with co-occurring conditions of substance abuse.

Collaborate with counseling staff and developing and/or leading psycho-educational skill building groups to promote wellness.

Provide crisis intervention and referrals to off-center mental health, professionals or agencies for ongoing treatment and/or specialized services.

Ensure patient privacy for all assessments; maintain, safeguard, and ensure the confidentiality of all required student health records when they are in the health clinic or in the possession of health and wellness team members, in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Qualifications

Must have a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) credential and be an independent practitioner in the state of performance. Minimum one year of experience as a licensed independent practitioner, providing assessment and treatment services to adolescence and young adults. Possess the ability to work both independently and as a member of a healthcare team to provide optimal services to a population of financially disadvantaged youth, typically ranging from 16 to 24 years in age. Must be able to pass a background check and drug testing.
