About the role

The substitute teacher is responsible for filling in for regular classroom teachers to ensure a continuous and effective learning environment. They will cover various subjects including core academics, arts, and physical education for preschool through grade 5 students.

  • Catlin Gabel School, in Portland, OR is seeking substitute teachers for the Beginning School (Preschool and Kindergarten) and Lower School (grades 1-5) in the following areas:
  • Homeroom (reading, writing, social studies, mathematics)
  • Spanish
  • Mandarin Chinese
  • Art
  • Music
  • Woodshop
  • Science
  • Physical education

As a Substitute Teacher, your primary responsibility is to fill in for regular classroom teachers when they are absent. Your role is crucial in ensuring a continuous and effective learning environment for students during the teacher's absence.

Beginning and Lower School Teacher Substitute Pay

  • 1 unit
  • (1-2hrs) = $55.00)

2 units (3-4hrs) = $109.00)

3 units (5-6hrs) = $164.00)

Full day = not to exceed $218.00)

*1 unit equals 1- 2 hours in Beginning and Lower School

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or Elementary/Early Childhood Education required; MA preferred
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience teaching early childhood and/or elementary school-age children
  • Must be able to pass a background check through Oregon Child Care Division and Oregon Department of Education
  • Current Childcare Background Registry (CBR) enrollment preferred (required to work with Preschool students)
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred (required to work with Preschool students)

Schedule

Substitutes are contacted to work on an as-needed basis throughout the school year (September-June) and subject their availability. A full day in the Beginning and Lower Schools is 8:00 am-3:30 pm.
