Duties and Responsibilities

The Health Education Specialist supports the mission of Aggie Prevention & Well-Being Programs by developing and delivering evidence-informed health promotion and prevention initiatives that empower students to make healthy decisions, build resilience, and thrive academically and personally. Reporting to the Director of Prevention & Well-Being Programs, the position leads educational programming focused on nutrition, healthy lifestyles, stress management, and general wellness while collaborating with the unit's interdisciplinary prevention team on initiatives addressing alcohol and other drug prevention, mental health promotion, hazing prevention, interpersonal violence prevention, healthy relationships, and student well-being. The position engages students through outreach, peer education, campus partnerships, and innovative health promotion strategies that foster a culture of wellness, safety, and personal responsibility.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

Associate's Degree + 4 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree + 2 years of relevant experience.

Equivalent Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Education, Psychology, Nutrition, or a closely related field. Experience in health promotion or peer education (internships or volunteer work acceptable). Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse individuals and groups. Experience and interest in working in a college health and wellness environment.

Experience in event coordination, workshop facilitation, or social media health messaging. Familiarity with college student health issues and trends.

Special Certification/Licensure

CPR certification Enrollment in or completion of Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification.

Working conditions and physical effort

Environment

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Physical Effort

Light physical effort. Effort applies to no more than two (2) hours per day.

Lifting Requirements

Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Risk

Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
