Job Description: One-on-One Paraprofessional (Elementary School) Independent Contractor Position (1099)

Hourly Rate

$25.00 per hour (Benefits/Holidays excluded) The duration of this position is for the 26-27 school year, with the possibility of extending to the next school year but not guaranteed.

Position Summary

The One-on-One Paraprofessional provides individualized instructional, behavioral, and social-emotional support to an assigned elementary student with identified educational needs. Working under the direction of the classroom teacher, learning specialist, and administrators, the paraprofessional will help the student access the curriculum, develop independence, participate in classroom and social activities, and achieve learning goals while fostering a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. The Paraprofessional will also be available to help other students when the assigned student is working independently. Essential

Duties and Responsibilities

Provide direct one-on-one support to an assigned student throughout the school day. Assist the student in accessing classroom instruction and completing academic tasks. Implement instructional strategies and accommodations as directed by the classroom teacher and learning and/or reading specialist. Support behavioral intervention plan using positive behavior support strategies. Assist with organization, task completion, transitions, and maintaining attention to assigned activities. Reinforce academic, social, communication, and self-help skills as outlined in the student's learning plan. Facilitate positive peer interactions and encourage appropriate social engagement. Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and observations as directed. Maintain confidentiality regarding student information in accordance with OCS guidelines. Collaborate effectively with teachers, learning and/or reading specialists, related service providers, administrators, and family. Supervise the student during recess, lunch, assemblies, field trips, and other school activities as assigned. Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized learning environment. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Work with the other students in the classroom as needed when the assigned student is working independently.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree preferred. Experience working with children in an educational setting. Experience supporting students with disabilities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to build positive relationships with elementary-aged students. Knowledge of child development and effective behavior management strategies. Ability to follow instructional plans and implement teacher-directed interventions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible in a variety of situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain accurate records. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and sit for extended periods. Ability to lift, carry, or assist with moving students and classroom materials in accordance with OCS guidelines. Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations. Work Environment This position is performed primarily in an elementary school setting, including classrooms, playgrounds, multipurpose room, and other campus locations. The work environment may involve supporting students with varying academic, behavioral, and communication needs. Maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and families. Follow all OCS policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Support the school's mission of promoting student success, independence, and well-being.

Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with an associate degree preferred. Candidates should have experience working with children in an educational setting and supporting students with disabilities.
