The tutor will provide academic support to students in individual or group settings, both in-person and online. They are responsible for maintaining accurate records, managing schedules, and acting as an academic resource and role model.
Subject Tutor for the Saints Learning Commons will tutor individual and/or groups of students seeking support and/or enhancement in understanding specific subjects/courses. We are especially looking for physics, computer science, nursing, psychology, statistics, hiim/med terms, accounting, finance, and economics.
Job Duties
Tutor students (individual and small groups) in-person and online (through Zoom) by appointment.
Establish personal contact and rapport with students while being identified as an academic resource and role model.
Implement a student needs inquiry and follow up on the results as needed.
Create a welcoming academic environment for students.
Maintain an accurate, up-to-date Google Calendar.
Keep regular and accurate records of sessions and timesheets.
Maintain current knowledge of content offered in your subject area.
Conduct “class visits” and assist with promoting tutoring services.
Promote awareness of individual responsibilities for academic success, including but not limited to assisting students of all academic abilities with various academic concerns and refer to appropriate campus resources.
Attend sessions, training sessions, team meetings, meetings with staff, programming events, and any specific events as requested by your supervisor. These take priority over all other non-academic commitments.
Follow detailed procedures and requirements as assigned by your supervisor.
Bring students of concern to your supervisor’s attention and, when appropriate, work with the staff to resolve concerns.
Maintain regular communication with your supervisor and team leader.
Maintain confidentiality.
Understand and abide by College and program policies and procedures as a role model.
Tutor appointments are for one full academic year, excluding summer sessions, unless the student is graduating mid-year.
Applicants must be current students at the College of St. Scholastica with Federal work-study eligibility and at least sophomore status. Candidates must have completed the subject courses they intend to tutor with high grades and possess strong communication and organizational skills.
