Job summary

Collaborates with school and district administration to ensure students with Significantly Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE) and their families and/or caregivers are welcomed, engaged, and successful in the educational environment.

LSAS vision: To provide culturally and linguistically diverse learners with equitable access to grade level content and increase their overall academic achievement. Provides targeted support and services to multilingual learners with limited or interrupted formal education through the lenses of transition to the educational setting and system, a sense of belonging and whole well-being, language acquisition, and academic growth and achievement.

Essential duties and responsibilities

The subsequent duties outline the fundamental operations of the position and exemplify the nature of the tasks carried out.   • Provide direct language instruction and support to students, either individually or in small groups, focusing on building language and literacy skills, mathematics and literacy concepts and skills, and social-emotional well-being.
  • Daily 30% 2.
  • Provide student, family/caregiver support in collaboration with educators to provide access to educational and community resources.
  • Serves as a school level consultant for staff and families.
  • Daily 20% 3.
  • Collaborate with and advise educators and caregivers to ensure that students receive consistent support and their individual needs are met.
  • This includes coordinating and attending meetings and conversations, providing progress monitoring updates, and offering strategies for supporting students at home.
  • Daily 15% 4.
  • Advocate for student needs within the school system and ensure access to necessary resources, opportunities, and support.
  • Daily 10% 5.
  • Understand and apply current best, research-based practices in SLIFE education and participate in professional learning opportunities related to this role.
  • Daily 5% 6.
  • Assess MLs with SLIFE to identify their strengths, needs, and areas in which they require additional academic, elective, and social emotional supports and services.
  • Monitor progress and adjust programming according to strengths and needs.
  • Weekly 10% 7.
  • Develop individualized plans in mathematics and literacy that address the specific strengths and needs of each student.
  • Plans may include differentiated instruction in English Language Development, academic core subjects, and/or social-emotional well-being.

Minimum Qualifications

  • The minimum prerequisites of formal education, professional work experience, certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, trainings, and other criteria that a candidate must fulfill to be considered for a position. It is essential that certifications, licenses, endorsements, designations, and trainings are fulfilled, valid, and not expired.
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three (3) years of professional work experience
  • Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license
  • Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Endorsement

Physical requirements and working conditions

  • Experience working in the public sector
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, teachers, parents, and other professionals
  • Academic and linguistic modeling and coaching experience through an asset focused framework
  • Understanding of students with SLIFE experiences social, emotional, academic, and language strengths and needs
  • Understanding of how students learn a new language and how to effectively support their language and academic development
  • Understanding typical development patterns and how to address individual differences. Knowledge of appropriate interventions for adolescent literacy and math
  • Ability to manage their own workload while collaborating with others
  • Ability to appreciate and respect the diverse backgrounds and experiences of students
  • Ability to work with students who may be experiencing a range of challenges and to remain patient and understanding
  • Ability to keep track of students' progress, manage paperwork, and organize materials
