Teaching assistants will implement lesson plans and provide academic and enrichment support to middle school students. They are also responsible for maintaining classroom safety, tracking attendance, and communicating student progress to parents and faculty.

Job Scope: Teaching Assistants will provide a balance of academic and enrichment activities to help 6th to 8th-grade students develop and strengthen academic, physical, and social skills. Activities will be conducted in accordance with the conditions and terms set forth by the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) Program and will take place in CCSD59 middle schools during the school year (September - May). Program Responsibilities:
Safety & Wellbeing: Ensuring the wellbeing and safety of youth at all times.
Daily Activity Plans: Implement lesson plans and maintain daily classroom schedules.
Support Student’s Growth/ Development: Support each youth’s social, emotional, and intellectual growth/development through lesson plans and interactions.
Using a variety of instructional and assessment strategies to meet individual youth needs.
Tutoring/Homework Assistance: Assisting youth with assignments or difficult concepts.
Maintaining weekly communication with parents, staff, and faculty regarding students' progress.
Transport participants when needed in a KYC-owned or rented vehicle.
Administrative Responsibilities
Tracking attendance of the students and other clerical duties in connection with lesson plans and programming.
Provide nutritional snacks in accordance with relevant local and state health standards for food preparation and handling and meet the standards of the National Afterschool Association.

Minimum Position Requirements
18 years and older.
Spanish- or Polish-speaking preferred.
Experience working with the middle school population.
Familiarity with typical electronic office equipment, including networked printers and file storage equipment.
Schedule
The position will be a part-time hourly, up to a maximum of 15 hours a week.
The position hours are during the school year when the Teen REACH program runs on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:30 to 5:30 and Wednesday from 1:30 to 5:30.
This position ends on May 30, 2026.
