About the role

The Teacher Assistant will support classroom teachers with lessons, student supervision, and daily routines. Additionally, they will lead the aftercare program by managing student rosters, homework support, and enrichment activities.

Position overview

Brown Christian Academy is seeking a dependable, caring, and organized Lower Division Teacher Assistant to support Kindergarten and First Grade classrooms and help lead Warriors Den Aftercare. The ideal candidate enjoys helping elementary students learn, values teamwork, and is committed to safe, positive, Christ-centered education and care.

Primary responsibilities

Assist Lower Division teachers with lessons, centers, small-group practice, classroom routines, transitions, materials, and student records.

Maintain active supervision and accurate student accountability during classrooms, lunch, recess, specials, hallways, restrooms, arrival, and dismissal.

Use calm, positive, age-appropriate guidance while supporting student responsibility, self-regulation, cooperation, and respectful behavior.

Transition registered students into Warriors Den at 3:15 p.m.; verify rosters and headcounts and follow BCA dismissal procedures.

Supervise snack, homework support, quiet activities, indoor/outdoor play, reading, games, and enrichment through 5:45 p.m.

Release students only to authorized adults; maintain accurate Brightwheel/sign-out records and report late pickup, incidents, injuries, or safety concerns promptly.

Communicate professionally with families and coworkers; protect confidentiality and participate in required meetings, training, and school events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
  • College coursework or a degree in education, early childhood, child development, or a related field—or strong professional experience working with children—is preferred.
  • Experience with elementary students, small-group learning, homework support, after-school care, camps, church programs, or comparable settings is preferred.
  • Patient, dependable, energetic, and able to communicate respectfully, use basic technology/Brightwheel, follow directions, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must satisfy all BCA and applicable employment requirements, including required background clearance, health documentation, training, and CPR/First Aid certification or timely completion.

Requirements

Candidates must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED. Preference is given to those with college coursework in education or prior experience working with children in school or camp settings.
