  • Summary: The Department of Psychiatry (DOP) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Division of Child and Adolescent Mental Health (DCAMH) invites applications for an School-Based Behavioral Health Clinician/Masters Licensed Therapist (BHC/MLT) to provide direct patient care at Traverse Academy. Traverse Academy is a school-based intensive mental health treatment program within the Cherry Creek School District (CCSD). It will be an integrated school and intensive outpatient treatment center, including specialized transition programming, for students with significant and impairing emotional and/or behavioral disorders. The program is part of an effort to reduce risk for self-injurious behavior and suicide through collaborative school-academic partnerships and facilitate a smooth transition from intensive treatment to the student’s home school. Patient care activities include intake diagnostic assessment; group, individual, and family-based treatment; crisis management support; and close collaboration with CCSD mental health and educational partners to facilitate smooth transitions back to the home school and community mental health services.

  • Responsibilities: Provides direct patient care to children, adolescents, and their families at Traverse Academy, including group therapy, individual/family therapy, crisis evaluation, and diagnostic intake evaluations. Implements evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including those based in transdiagnostic cognitive-behavioral therapy principles. Engages in ongoing treatment monitoring and planning for transition back to the student’s home school and to community-based therapy services. Collaborates closely with other CU and CCSD mental health providers, as well as CCSD educational staff within Traverse Academy, to coordinate on treatment planning and progress. Provides innovative therapeutic summer programming to children and adolescents with emotional and/or behavioral concerns and their families. Maintains timely communication with team members and supervisors Attends team meetings and educational in-services for Behavioral Health Clinicians Enters appropriate notes and charge captures that comply with state and federal standards in the medical record for all patients seen.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. This position could be categorized as Instructor or Senior Instructor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below. The ranks are based on how many years a candidate has been licensed and if they want to pursue the promotions track.

Instructor

1-3 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

Minimum degree qualifications: Master’s in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or related field Colorado License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado (LCSW, LPC, LMFT).

Senior

Instructor: 1-3 years of relevant clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience.

Minimum degree qualifications: Master’s in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or related field Colorado License or be eligible for licensure within the state of Colorado (LCSW, LPC, LMFT).

  • Track: To support the growth of our faculty, selected candidates at the Assistant Professor level or higher will be offered the opportunity to choose a track that corresponds to their area of excellence. Learn more about faculty tracks at the Offices for the Faculty Experience Ranks of Instructor and Senior Instructor will be on the TTE track and given an opportunity to switch tracks, if needed, at a later time.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Clinical knowledge and experience in evidence-based assessment and treatment of youth mental health concerns Must be knowledgeable about HIPAA, FERPA, and other state privacy laws as they pertain to youth and demonstrate awareness of and competency related to maintaining confidentiality. Must become familiar with available resources for substance abuse, eating disorders, inpatient hospitalization, and other needs as pertinent to students. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently. Capacity for flexibility and adaptability in different work situations Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work effectively on multiple tasks and maintain a well-organized work environment. Anticipated Pay Range: The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: Instructor: $72,000 - $90,000 Senior Instructor: $72,000 - $90,000 This represents the 25-50 percentile of the salary range which is reflective of a candidate with 1-7 years of experience.
