The Middle School Mentor supervises youth activities while fostering a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment. They are responsible for nurturing youth development through purposeful engagement and maintaining open communication with families.

FUNCTIONS: 1. Supervises a group of youth and their activities. 2. Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or Y. 3. Nurtures youth through purposeful interactions, activities and engagement that are developmentally appropriate, and are consistent with the Y’s values. 4. Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building skills in all interactions. 5. Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the Y and provides daily opportunities for youth to engage in purposeful conversation. 6. Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents about their child; connects families to the Y. 7. Actively participates in department and branch staff meetings and/or related trainings. 8. Performs other duties as assigned.
