Key Responsibilities: Provide direct nursing care to students with acute or chronic health conditions, including but not limited to medication administration, wound care, catheterization, and tube feeding. Conduct health assessments and screenings, monitor vital signs, and assess students' overall health status to identify and address health concerns and emergencies. Collaborate with school staff, parents, and healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized health plans and accommodations for students with special health needs. Administer medications, treatments, and procedures according to physician orders, nursing protocols, and school policies, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to safety protocols. Educate students, families, and school staff on health promotion, disease prevention, and management of chronic health conditions, providing training and support as needed. Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff as needed, following established protocols and procedures. Maintain accurate and confidential health records, including immunization records, medication logs, health assessments, and incident reports. Collaborate with school counselors, psychologists, and social workers to support students' mental health and emotional well-being as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited program. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of practice. Previous experience working as a school nurse or in pediatric nursing (preferred). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred. Strong clinical assessment skills and knowledge of pediatric health conditions and treatments. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, school staff, and healthcare providers. Proficiency in documentation and record-keeping.
