About the role

The substitute teacher is responsible for delivering planned instruction and maintaining classroom routines in the absence of the regular teacher. They must ensure a safe and productive learning environment while supporting the academic and social development of students.

Louis.Job Summary The Substitute Teacher provides instruction, supervision, and care for students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

The Substitute Teacher follows lesson plans, maintains classroom routines and expectations, and provides a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.

The Substitute Teacher may work across different grade levels and subject areas and is responsible for maintaining continuity of instruction while supporting the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual development of students.

As a member of the Catholic school community, the Substitute Teacher is expected to support the school's Catholic mission and serve as a positive role model of faith, respect, kindness, responsibility, and service.Job Responsibilities Classroom Instruction

Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the absent teacher or school administration.

Deliver planned instructional content using appropriate classroom materials, technology, tools, and resources.

Provide clear directions and guidance to students regarding assignments and classroom activities.

Adapt lessons or activities as appropriate while maintaining the instructional goals established by the regular teacher.

Provide appropriate support to students with differing learning needs.

Maintain classroom routines and instructional expectations established by the school and regular teacher.

Classroom Management

Maintain a safe, respectful, orderly, and productive classroom environment.

Establish and maintain appropriate classroom expectations in accordance with school policies.

Manage student behavior fairly, consistently, and respectfully.

Address disruptions and student concerns using appropriate classroom-management strategies.

Seek assistance from the Principal or designated school staff when student behavior or other situations require additional support.

Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with all students.

Job Requirements Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in education or a related field preferred.

Licensing/Certification

Teaching certification, substitute teaching permit, or other required credentials may be required based on diocesan and state regulations. Must complete all required diocesan and school background checks, child-safety training, and other employment requirements.

Experience

  • Previous teaching, classroom, childcare, coaching, or related experience preferred.

Requirements
