About the role

The substitute teacher provides a structured learning environment by following lesson plans and maintaining classroom order. They are responsible for supervising students, managing behavior, and ensuring continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular teacher.

Louis.Job Summary The Substitute Teacher provides a safe, supportive, and structured learning environment for students when the regular classroom teacher is absent.

The Substitute Teacher follows lesson plans and classroom routines provided by the regular teacher and works to maintain continuity of instruction, student expectations, and classroom management.

The Substitute Teacher serves as a positive role model and supports the mission and Catholic identity of the school by fostering an environment rooted in faith, respect, kindness, responsibility, and service.Job Responsibilities

Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular classroom teacher.

Provide appropriate instruction and guidance to students in accordance with the teacher's plans and school expectations.

Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful classroom environment.

Supervise students at all times and follow school procedures for student safety and supervision.

Implement classroom rules, routines, and behavior expectations consistently and fairly.

Take attendance and complete other classroom records or documentation as required.

Assist students with assignments, activities, and classroom work.

Monitor student behavior and address minor classroom concerns appropriately, seeking assistance from school administration when necessary.

Maintain a positive and encouraging relationship with students.

Follow school procedures for arrival, dismissal, recess, lunch, restroom breaks, assemblies, and other scheduled activities.

Communicate any significant student, classroom, or instructional concerns to the regular teacher and/or school administration.

Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and school matters.

Leave the classroom organized and provide the regular teacher with a brief summary of the day's activities, including any significant concerns or accomplishments.

Support the Catholic mission and values of the school by modeling respect, compassion, integrity, and Christian behavior.

Job Requirements

Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.

High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or teaching experience preferred.

Ability to work effectively with students of varying ages and abilities.

Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.

Dependable, flexible, patient, and able to adapt to different classroom environments.

Ability to follow lesson plans and school policies.

Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries and student confidentiality.

Commitment to providing a safe, nurturing, and respectful environment for students.

Willingness to support and uphold the mission and Catholic identity of the school.

Must meet all diocesan and school requirements for working with children, including required background checks, training, and child-safety compliance.
