About the role

The Certified Athletic Trainer provides comprehensive health care services, including injury prevention, evaluation, and rehabilitation for NCAA Division II athletic teams. They also assist with administrative tasks, medical record maintenance, and facility upkeep under the supervision of the Team Physician.

Position Summary

In consultation with the Director of Sports Medicine, Certified Athletic Trainer and under the medical supervision of the Team Physician(s), this position provides a full-range of athletic training health care services for NCAA Division II athletic teams. This includes, but is not limited to the prevention, evaluation, assessment, management, and treatment of injuries / illnesses, short-term and long-term rehabilitation of injuries, education and counseling of student-athletes, and related health care administration. Works in cooperation with and under the medical supervision of the Team Physician(s).

Essential Functions

Perform as certified athletic trainer in the prevention, evaluation, assessment, rehabilitation, management, treatment, and treatment of injuries and illnesses.

Provide athletic training health care services for team practices and home contests.

Make medical referrals and in consultation with supervising team physician, determine the medical clearance of student-athletes.

Document and effectively communicate with coaches all medical restrictions for participation.

Provide emergency care under the policies and procedures of the Office of Athletic Training and the Plan of Care with the supervising team physician(s).

Work with coaches and student-athletes to develop appropriate training regiments.

Assist with the formation and maintenance of student-athlete medical records.

Maintain proper medical record keeping and documentation of all injuries and illnesses.

Assist the Director of Sports Medicine with administrative responsibilities - including, but not limited to management / processing of insurance claims, review of policies and procedures, website management, supervision of student-workers or interns, etc.

Share in the responsibilities of athletic training facility and fitness center maintenance and upkeep.

Maintain proper certifications/licensure as required by the State of New Jersey.

Abide by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Code of Ethics.

Integrate the core values of respect, compassion, integrity, justice and service in all aspects of interaction.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Miscellaneous/secondary responsibilities that are sometimes involved in this job

  • Travel with teams and provide athletic training health care services
  • Provide Athletic Training health care services for GCU camps and clinics (during contract period).
  • Assist with facilitation of pre-participation physical exams.
  • Assist in the implementation of institutional and NCAA student-athlete drug testing and education.
  • Serve as a Clinical Preceptor for Undergraduate and Graduate Athletic Training Programs with partner universities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification.
  • Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as an Athletic Trainer by the New Jersey Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Current certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
  • Experience in an athletic training facility environment (collegiate preferred).
  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills and familiarity with Electronic Medical Records.
  • Prior experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft SharePoint Server
  • Prior experience with ImPact neurocognitive testing
  • Instructor Certification in CPR/AED/First Aid
  • Availability and willingness to travel as needed

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree and be a Certified Athletic Trainer with current licensure in New Jersey. Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records, NCAA regulations, and CPR/AED certification is required.
