About the role

The specialist provides comprehensive case management for high school dropouts to help them access postsecondary education and overcome barriers to success. Responsibilities include teaching career development classes, monitoring student progress, and conducting outreach and recruitment activities.

Sea Mar Community Health Centers, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) founded in 1978, is a community-based organization committed to providing quality, comprehensive health, human, housing, educational and cultural services to diverse communities, specializing in service to Latinos in Washington State. Sea Mar proudly serves all persons without regard to race, ethnicity, immigration status, gender, or sexual orientation, and regardless of ability to pay for services. Sea Mar's network of services includes more than 90 medical, dental, and behavioral health clinics and a wide variety of nutritional, social, and educational services. We are recruiting for the following position: Sea Mar is a mandatory COVID-19 and flu vaccine organization

Position Summary

Under the supervision of a program manager, this full time position provides comprehensive case management services for high school dropouts, aged 16-21, for the Youth Re-Engagement (U3) program located at Everett Community College. U3 is an educational program that helps students access postsecondary education and earn the credential of their choice, with options including a GED, a high school diploma, an Associate degree, a short-term professional/technical certification, or any combination thereof. Full time M-Th, 7:30 AM - 5 PM, F 8 AM - 12 PM. The schedule is flexible depending on needs of the program. Some evening and weekend work may be required. The starting wage for this position is $27.08 per hour.

Duties and Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPOSIBILITIES Participate in providing outreach, recruitment and assessment activities. Assess applicants to determine program eligibility. Complete enrollment/ registration documentation and testing. Provide comprehensive case management to a large number of students in order to identify barriers to school success and develop strategies to overcome these barriers. Assist youth in gaining access to services to overcome barriers as needed. Provide transportation if needed. Meet with instructors as needed to assist students who are struggling, create a plan for success. Monitor student attendance and educational progress. Teach a Career Development class, including creating and revising curriculum. Provide academic advising for all U3 students. Complete transcript evaluations as needed. Attend campus meetings/trainings as assigned. Facilitate information meetings to the general public as assigned. Conduct orientations for prospective students, including testing. Maintain accurate files, including up to date case notes, and other required documents for each student. Attend regular U3 team, agency and staff meetings and other community meetings as assigned. Other duties as determined by program manager, or designee.

Conditions of Employment

This applicant must navigate initial hire screenings including a background check conducted internally through Sea Mar’s human resources department. The new employee shall sign and date the job description to affirm the validity of the information herein and to signify compliance with the conditions of employment; they must sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering all student related information as well. The employee must adhere to the Sea Mar Employee Health Screening and Infection Control policies.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below under the Education and Experience are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The U3 specialist must demonstrate the experience, knowledge and abilities below: Knowledge of college resources, testing, general practices and policies. Knowledge of local youth resources. Ability to keep accurate records, case notes and student documents. Ability to academically advise a large number of students. Knowledge of and experience with community college enrollment and registration procedures. Flexibility and ability to work a non-traditional work schedule. Must have transportation, drivers’ license and insurance. LANGUAGE SKILLS The U3 specialist must be fully fluent in spoken and written English. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. While performing the duties of this job, this employee is regularly required to communicate in person and by telephone with other individuals, and may be asked to speak in front of groups. EQUIPMENT SKILLS The U3 Specialist must be computer literate.

Education and Experience

Certificate, Licenses, and Registrations EDUCATION AND/ OR EXPERIENCE Three+ years of experience working with at-risk youth ages 16-21. Three years’ experience working with community college counselors in helping youth access and complete two year college degrees. Experience writing curriculum and preparing training materials for underserved students. Experience working in a college environment. Experience in creating/revising high school curricula. Experience teaching in a college setting. AA degree required; BA in human services preferred. Must maintain current CPR/First Aid certification. Additional Requirements Must complete a pre-hire and annual TB test screening. Annual employee health screening required Annual TB test required Annual influenza vaccine required.Only exception is for employees with a medical or religious exemption approved by Administration. Employees with an approved medical or religious exemption must wear a mask at all times during the flu season. Work Environment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of this job. The employee will work in group office and classroom settings on a community college campus, and independently. The position must maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times. Occasionally, the position will work off campus, local high schools or community agencies (i.e. libraries, juvenile detention centers, social service agencies). A few times a year, the position may participate in outdoor community outreach events, such as community resource fairs. Physical Requirements The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
