Position Summary

The Athletics Basketball Operations Assistant will support the daily administrative and operational needs of MIU’s basketball programs. Responsibilities include organizing practice equipment, preparing courts, printing schedules, updating team calendars, and assisting coaches and athletics staff with general day-to-day tasks.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist coaches and athletics staff with the daily operations of the basketball program.
  • Prepare the court and equipment before practices, workouts, team meetings, and special events.
  • Organize and maintain basketballs, cones, training equipment, practice jerseys, clipboards, and other program materials.
  • Help create, print, distribute, and update practice schedules, team calendars, travel itineraries, rosters, and announcements.
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down benches, chairs, tables, scoreboards, locker rooms, and other game-day areas.
  • Maintain organized records for equipment, uniforms, travel materials, attendance, and other approved team information.
  • Communicate schedule changes, assignments, and program information to players and staff as directed by the coaching staff.
  • Assist with team travel preparation, including equipment checklists, passenger lists, meal counts, and travel packets.
  • Maintain clean, orderly, and professional basketball offices, storage spaces, locker rooms, and team areas.
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately, record work-study hours properly, and maintain confidentiality when handling team information.
  • Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, professionalism, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Perform other basketball operations and administrative duties assigned by the coaching or athletics staff.

Job Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled student who is eligible to participate in the university’s work-study program.
  • Must be dependable, organized, professional, and able to follow instructions while working independently or with a team.
  • Must demonstrate strong communication, time-management, and attention-to-detail skills; prior athletics or basketball experience is preferred but not required.
