About the role

Teen Leaders are responsible for the daily supervision of participants and the development of engaging, high-quality after-school activities. They serve as mentors who foster a safe, inclusive environment while supporting students' academic and personal growth.

$18.25 - $22.00 Hourly

Position Summary

Teen Leaders serve as positive role models and trusted mentors, supporting teens’ growth both during and beyond structured program activities. This role is centered on building meaningful relationships, creating a welcoming space, and helping teens feel seen, supported, and motivated. Teen Leaders are responsible for the daily supervision of participants and actively assist in planning, developing, and leading engaging, high-quality program activities aligned with the program model. Activities may include physical education, community-building time, college and career exploration, academic support, and enrichment opportunities. Teen Leaders engage participants through conversation, games, and mentorship; encouraging confidence, teamwork, and positive decision-making. This position reports directly to the Teen Coordinator ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES: Lead after-school activities, including physical education, community time, college and career exploration, and academic support, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for students. Assists Site Coordinators and Youth Directors in the overall program operation and supervision of participants while adhering to program policies and standard operating procedures. Develop and implement student-centered clubs and programs that promote cultural understanding, inclusion, and leadership development for students. Attend all general and site staff meetings and training sessions and give Be open to criticism, suggestions, and training from other staff. Assist with the responsibility to ensure all facilities, equipment, and supplies at the site are maintained/good/organized/clean. Ensure the success of students by providing individualized support and feedback. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in youth development and program management. Contribute to the development of our program by suggesting new ideas, participating in staff meetings, and providing feedback on program improvements. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and incident reports. Participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives to ensure the highest standards of program quality and student success. Qualifications

  • Skills/Knowledge: Experience engaging middle and high school youth in recreation, leadership development, service learning, civic engagement, and college/career readiness. Skilled in group or classroom management, with an understanding of teen development and effective group dynamics. Demonstrates mature judgment, sound decision-making, and the ability to lead by example. Collaborative and flexible mindset that values youth voice and supports areas beyond personal expertise. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; well-organized and able to multitask in a dynamic environment. Culturally responsive, with experience working with diverse populations and building authentic relationships across backgrounds. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and general office software; familiarity with PowerPoint, Publisher, and additional applications preferred. Education/Training: High school diploma or equivalent. Current enrollment in or graduation from a higher education program preferred. Strong communication and organizational skills required. Experience facilitating teen group activities preferred. CPR, AED, and First Aid certified (training available upon hire). The current contract provides programming for the following three school years (2025-2026, 2026-2027, and 2027-2028) with the possibility of extension for an additional two years (2028-2029 and 2029-2030).

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and experience engaging middle and high school youth. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and strong interpersonal skills are required, with CPR, AED, and First Aid certification needed upon hire.
