Iroquois Job Corps is seeking a TEAP (Trainee Employee Assistance Program) Specialist/CASAC to provide substance use prevention, intervention, education, and support to students as they prepare for successful careers and independent lives.

Individuals hired with a CASAC-T must obtain their full CASAC certification within 12–18 months of hire.

As a TEAP Specialist, you will play a critical role in helping young adults identify and overcome barriers related to substance use while providing education, counseling, and support that empowers students to make healthy decisions and successfully complete their education and career training.

This is much more than a counseling position—it is an opportunity to positively influence lives while gaining valuable experience in assessment, counseling, case management, prevention programming, crisis intervention, motivational interviewing, and behavioral health services.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct substance use screenings and assessments to identify students who may benefit from intervention services.
  • Provide individual and group counseling for students requiring substance use intervention.
  • Develop individualized support plans and monitor student progress.
  • Participate in New Student Orientation by educating students on substance use prevention and available support services.
  • Ensure students who test positive for drugs receive required follow-up testing within the 45-day probationary period.
  • Provide ongoing counseling and relapse prevention support for students completing the TEAP program.
  • Develop and present educational programs focused on substance use prevention, healthy decision-making, and wellness.
  • Conduct in-service training for staff regarding substance use awareness, early identification, intervention strategies, and available resources.
  • Coordinate referrals to community agencies for inpatient, outpatient, detoxification, and recovery support services as appropriate.
  • Build trusting relationships that encourage student engagement, accountability, and long-term success.
  • Maintain confidential records and documentation in accordance with federal, state, and organizational requirements.
  • Collaborate with Wellness, Counseling, Residential Services, Career Preparation, and other departments to provide comprehensive student support.

Qualifications

  • Current New York State CASAC certification required (CASAC-T candidates are encouraged to apply).
  • Minimum of two years of experience in substance use counseling, behavioral health, mental health, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess students for substance use disorders and determine appropriate levels of care.
  • Experience developing and implementing prevention and intervention programs.
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented practices preferred.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
