About the role

The Wellness Coach provides behavioral health support and prevention services to children and families in school and community settings. They facilitate wellness activities, coordinate care, and collaborate with school personnel to foster a positive environment.

Position Summary

The Wellness Coach provides prevention and early intervention services to promote the behavioral health and well-being of children, youth, and families in school-based and community settings. Within school settings, this position provides support to school personnel to create a positive learning environment in which students thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

Essential duties and responsibilities

Supports and promotes the mission of the Agency: Foothill Family empowers children and families on their journey to achieve personal success.

Provides age-appropriate, culturally responsive behavioral health support as part of a care team.

Teaches and reinforces practical wellness skills, including coping strategies, emotional regulation, problem-solving, healthy routines, mindfulness, and redirection techniques.

Leads or supports individual check-ins, small groups, classroom wellness activities, and psychoeducation.

Assists with screenings, referrals, care coordination, and warm hand-offs to internal or external behavioral health services.

Communicates with staff, families, and providers to support continuity of care and facilitates effective partnerships to ensure coordinated approaches and unified goal setting.

Follows crisis protocols, provide brief support, and connect youth to licensed professionals as needed.

Maintains professional, empathetic, and culturally responsive engagement with youth and families.

Supports administrative and non-clinical tasks related to behavioral health services.

Provides care or services to minors or comes into contact with minors as part of their job duties.

Provides services relating to the administration of public funds or benefits, including eligibility for public funds or public benefits.

Travels between Foothill Family sites for training, meetings, and other in-person interactions.

Attends in-person meetings and events at various locations within the Los Angeles County and surrounding areas.

Displays sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomics characteristics.

Performs work in a safe manner at all times and ensures that other individuals do not put themselves or others at risk.

Follows all policies, procedures and legal mandates related to HIPAA and maintenance of client files.

Ensures performance and behaviors support the Agency’s performance quality improvement (PQI) goals and objectives.

Reports to work on time and maintains reliable and regular attendance.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Position requirements

BA/BS in Social Science preferred.

Certified Wellness Coach or obtain certification within 30-days of hire.

Ability to be an excellent representative of the Agency to the community.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work cooperatively as a team member.

Knowledge and sensitivity to cultural differences.

Knowledge of childhood development, public school systems, and community resources.

Must not appear on any federal, state, or other applicable sanctions, exclusion, or debarment lists that would prohibit or restrict employment with an agency receiving federal or state health care funding.

Valid CA Driver’s License and maintains insurability on the Agency’s auto liability policy (including a minimum of 2 years driving experience) and maintains the California state required auto insurance liability limits OR maintains reliable transportation to attend all appointments and meetings as required in the position.

Bilingual Spanish, Cantonese/Mandarin, Vietnamese, or other language, as determined by program need, preferred.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Social Science is preferred along with knowledge of childhood development and community resources. Candidates must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to travel between various locations in Los Angeles County.
