About the role

The Licensed Vocational Nurse provides essential health services, including direct nursing care, medication administration, and emergency response for students. They also maintain accurate health records and collaborate with staff and families to ensure a safe learning environment.

About Us California Montessori Project (CMP) is a successful public charter school network based in the greater Sacramento area with an exceptional TK-8 Montessori program that is tuition-free and open to all students. The network serves over 3,000 students on seven campuses. CMP is authorized through, and maintains strong relationships with four school districts: Elk Grove Unified School District, Sacramento City Unified School District, San Juan Unified School District and Buckeye Union School District. CMP teachers and support staff are supported in pursuing professional growth, and the CMP Leadership Team, including the Governing Board, Directors, Principals, and Deans, provide stability and focused guidance to the organization. CMP’s commitment to equity and student success is anchored in the frameworks of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), which build sustainable systems and promote whole-child development. CMP Mission The Mission of the California Montessori Project is to provide a quality, tuition-free, TK-8, Montessori education that challenges our students to reach their full potential. Summary/Objective The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) provides essential health services to support the physical well-being of students across CMP campuses. This role delivers direct nursing care, manages health records, responds to medical emergencies, and collaborates with families, staff, and community health providers to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment in alignment with CMP’s commitment to whole-child development. Essential Functions

Assesses and provides first aid and basic nursing care to students with minor injuries or illnesses in accordance with established protocols and scope of LVN practice.

Administers prescribed medications and treatments to students as directed by a physician, under the supervision of the Credentialed School Nurse and in compliance with CMP medication policies.

Monitors students with chronic health conditions (e.g., diabetes, asthma, seizures) and implements individualized health care plans.

Maintains accurate and confidential health records, including medication logs, and incident reports.

Responds promptly to medical emergencies, performs basic life support measures when needed, and coordinates emergency medical services as required.

Assists with vision, hearing screenings in accordance with state mandates and documents results.

Communicates effectively with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns, medications, and follow-up care in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Credentialed School Nurse.

Maintains a clean, organized, and well-stocked health office.

Assists in staff training related to health and safety topics as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned to support students' health, social, and academic progress.

Competencies

Knowledge of basic nursing principles, first aid, and emergency procedures within the LVN scope of practice.

Supervisory Responsibilities None Work Environment This job operates primarily in a school health office and classroom environment across multiple CMP campuses. The role may involve exposure to bodily fluids, minor injuries, and occasional Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop, kneel, and lift and/or move students or equipment up to 50 pounds. The employee may be required to assist with student mobility or positioning and respond quickly during emergencies. Safety Measures

Safety Protocols: Follows established CMP safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the physical and emotional well-being of all students.

Proper Techniques: Utilizes appropriate lifting, positioning, and restraint techniques for assisting students with physical needs or behavioral challenges to prevent injury to both students and staff.

Health Considerations: Adheres to universal precautions, health and hygiene standards, and is mindful of any allergies, medical conditions, or infectious diseases that students may have.

Travel Requirements Occasional travel between CMP’s seven campus locations and the central administration building as needed to provide coverage or attend trainings. Adherence to CMP’s Motor Vehicle Use policy is required. Required Education and Experience

Valid California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in good standing.

Current CPR and First Aid certification.

Experience providing nursing care, preferably in a school or pediatric setting.

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience working in a school or educational environment.

Bilingual skills (especially Spanish).

Familiarity with California school health mandates and immunization requirements.

Experience supporting students with chronic health conditions or special needs.
