  • Summary/Objective: Grace Place for Children & Families welcomes applications for the position of Substitute Teacher on an ongoing basis. This role is temporary and candidates will be contacted as needed for on-call assignments. As an Early Childhood Substitute Teacher, your primary responsibility will be to provide support and assistance in various early childhood classrooms. In the absence of regular staff members, you will ensure the safety, care, and education of our students. Assignments may include assisting in the toddler through 4-year-old preschool classrooms.

  • Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the classroom teacher, maintaining consistency in the educational program
  • Supervise and engage with children in a nurturing and supportive manner, promoting their physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development
  • Implement daily routines, including meals, and outdoor play following the established schedule of the classroom
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean learning environment adhering to DCF health and safety regulations and protocols
  • Foster positive and inclusive interactions with children, encouraging their curiosity, creativity, and independent thinking
  • Collaborate with other staff members to ensure effective communication and smooth transitions for the children
  • Ability to engage and work effectively with children, parents, and support staff

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Degree/certification in Early Childhood Education or related field, preferred

Experience

  • Previous experience working with young children in a classroom or daycare setting or related environment, preferred
  • Physical stamina and the ability to engage in active play and movement with young children is required.
  • Patience, flexibility, and adaptability to adjust to changing classroom dynamics and routines.
  • Willingness to complete DCF coursework upon hire
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Bi-lingual skills, preferred
  • Willing to submit to Fingerprinting and Background Checks.
  • Compliance with Good Moral Character as described by DCF

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Background check, fingerprinting required. Background Screening Requirement All applicants must successfully complete required State and National background screening as a condition of employment prior to beginning work at Grace Place for Children and Families. Screening is conducted in accordance with applicable Florida law, including Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, and, when applicable, Chapter 408, Florida Statutes.

Background screening includes fingerprinting for FDLE and FBI criminal history checks and review through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse. Employment is contingent upon receipt, review, and approval of screening results. Clearinghouse.

This job is seasonal during academic year only (August to May), however there are opportunities available to work in a different capacity during summer camp. Work Environment: Position requires working in numerous locations which include varied temperature, noise level, and other factors that may affect a person’s working conditions while performing the job. Position Type and Expected Working Hours: Part-time. Anticipated working hours of approximately 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, including some evenings and weekends as needed. Physical Demands: Bending, sitting, and standing for long periods of time. May require lifting objects weighing up to 20 lbs. as needed. Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Background check, fingerprinting required.
