About the role

The Health and Nutrition Services Professional is responsible for delivering health screenings, tracking medical care, and ensuring safety standards for children in early childhood programs. Additionally, the role oversees nutrition services, coordinates with food service staff, and provides educational resources to families regarding dietary needs.

Description Connecticut Institute For Communities, Inc. (CIFC) seeks a part-time (15 hours per week) Early Childhood Programs Health & Nutrition Services Professional / RN to work in our Norwalk facilities.

Summary Duties

  • This position serves as Health & Nutrition Services Professional of CIFC’s Norwalk Early Childhood programs. (A) The Health Services Professional is responsible for ensuring the delivery of health services to children and families in the Early Childhood programs, which includes the delivery of required 45-day and 90-day screenings. The Health Services Professional also tracks the continuing medical care of each child in the program and educates parents as to the on-going health needs of their children. The Health Services Professional works closely with the Teaching staff, Family Advocates, and the entire Management Team to coordinate the delivery of all health services provided to children in our programs. The Health Services Professional also works with all staff to ensure the health and safety of the physical environments in which services are delivered or administered. This position has primary responsibility for fulfillment of all

  • Monitoring core question(s): Prevention & Early Intervention.
  • (B) The Nutrition Services Professional is responsible for overseeing the implementation of all nutrition services, including interface with food service staff & vendors, the delivery of children’s meals, and supervision of provision of adult meals at program events.
  • The Nutrition Services Professional also works with the team of Family Advocates through the Social Services Professional to ensure that families are familiar with the nutritional needs of their children, and then supports and assists families as they identify and meet their nutritional goals.
  • The Nutrition Services Professional also works with Teachers and Assistant Teachers, through the Education Services Professional to integrate nutrition-related lessons into the classroom curriculum.
  • The Nutrition Services Professional is responsible for providing educational resources for families on nutrition and dietary-related subjects.
  • The position has primary responsibility for fulfillment of all nutrition related HS/EHS Performance Standards.
  • The position interfaces with the Head Start Dietician Consultant, if applicable, and the Child Adult Community Food Program (CACFP) Manager.

(C) RN – This position serves as the equivalent of the “School Nurse” for the CIFC Early Childhood programs.

Requirements

State of CT DPH RN License, plus at least 2 yrs early childhood experience or equivalent required. · Pass physical examination, background check, and fingerprinting screen · Able to lift a child weighing 40 pounds, 20 times a day if needed · Valid driver’s license required · Basic computer literacy in email, word processing and internet navigation · Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid
