About the role

The Climate Specialist is responsible for maintaining a learning-conducive environment by monitoring student behavior and enforcing school policies. They facilitate transitions, intervene in potential conflicts, and support teachers in classroom management.

JOB GOAL

The Climate Specialist is responsible for assisting school staff in maintaining a climate conducive for learning. The Climate Specialist will monitor, track and support student behavior and enforce school and classroom rules in and out of the school building.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate smooth transitions at the start and end of the school day.
  • Assist teachers in the establishment and execution of classroom rules and procedures that support teaching and learning.
  • Enforces the Code of Student Conduct and all school policies and procedures.
  • Attends workshops and professional development sessions on climate and behavior enhancing programs and initiatives.
  • Intervene to minimize potential conflicts between students to prevent escalation of situations.
  • Participate in the implementation of the School Climate Plan.
  • Reinforce appropriate behavior with individual students.
  • Monitor student behavior during unstructured time.
  • Facilitate outdoor activities before and after school hours.
  • Perform related work as required.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Associate degree program at an accredited college or university or 60 credit hours in a matriculated status at an accredited college or university.
  • One year of full-time, paid or volunteer experience participating in community or schools developing or implementing conflict resolution programs.
  • OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of paid urban school experience implementing conflict resolution programs.

Additional Experience

  • Experience working in an urban school environment.
  • Acceptable criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
  • Bring a spirit of enthusiasm, energy, and multi-cultural awareness.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Utilize proper discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
  • Work well without close supervision and with little direction.
  • Be able to solve problems independently and manage projects alone.
  • Be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
