POSITION OVERVIEW Instructs children in activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth needed for primary school by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Note: The essential functions below describe the general requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Incumbents may perform all or most of the primary accountabilities listed below. Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be documented in the incumbent’s performance objectives as outlined by the incumbent’s immediate supervisor or manager. Meets and instructs assigned students at designated locations and specific times. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and--in harmony with the goals--establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like. Communicates these objectives to students. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media; consistent with the physical limitations of the provided location and the needs and capabilities of the individuals involved. Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required. Recognizes and evaluates the learning and other disabilities of students on a regular basis; seeks the assistance or referral of district specialists as required. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms. Performs other necessary duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Education, Licensure, or Certification Bachelors degree in education Current Special Education Teaching Certificate (issued by state education agency where campus operates) Must be highly-qualified in subject area BACKGROUND CHECKS The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check. PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT Travel between campuses is required from time to time. This position requires the need to lift objects (up to 25 pounds) on occasion. This position may require sitting for long periods at times, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping and long periods of concentration. Local and in-state travel required.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in education and a current Special Education Teaching Certificate. The role requires the ability to pass a criminal background check and perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 pounds.
