About the role

Private Middle School Teacher & Learning Specialist | Sarasota, FL — In-Home | Part-Time (12-15 hrs/week) $35-45k Annually About Us Thrive Education Partners connects exceptional educators with families seeking thoughtful, highly individualized alternatives to traditional schooling.

This role supports one middle-school student through customized instruction designed to strengthen foundational skills, rebuild confidence, and create a meaningful path toward high-school readiness.

Schedule & Work Environment Approximately 12-15 hours per week of direct instruction M-F and 1-2 hours of paid planning, assessment, documentation, and family communication.

Instruction will take place in the family’s Sarasota-area home, primarily during weekday mornings and early afternoons.

The final weekly schedule, annual calendar, paid time off, and start date will be determined closer to hire.

Occasional local outings or community-based learning experiences may be incorporated into instruction.

Key Responsibilities Design and deliver an individualized middle-school program across language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and executive-function development.

Review available educational records and administer diagnostic assessments to identify specific strengths, skill gaps, and instructional priorities.

Develop and maintain an individualized learning plan with measurable academic and developmental goals.

Provide explicit, systematic literacy instruction using engaging, age-respectful materials appropriate for an adolescent learner.

Strengthen mathematical foundations while building toward middle-school proficiency and pre-algebra readiness.

Create concise, engaging lessons that incorporate movement, hands-on learning, student interests, real-world applications, and purposeful breaks.

Monitor progress continuously, maintain clear instructional records, and communicate regularly with the family and Thrive’s educational support team.

What Success Looks Like The student demonstrates measurable growth in foundational literacy, mathematics, and executive-function skills.

Instructional decisions are supported by assessment data, documented progress, and clearly defined goals.

The student develops greater confidence, engagement, independence, and willingness to persist through challenging academic work.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Literacy, Mathematics, Child Development, or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience teaching or supporting middle-school learners. Strong knowledge of diagnostic assessment, differentiated instruction, and individualized learning-plan development. Ability to teach language arts and mathematics through the middle-school level, including foundational skill remediation. Reliable transportation to the family home in Sarasota, FL and a valid driver's license with clean record. Ability to pass comprehensive background and reference checks and meet all applicable requirements for in-home employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Active or previously held state teaching certification (FL preferred) Training or substantial experience in structured literacy, reading intervention, dyslexia support, special education, or learning disabilities. Experience supporting students with attention, organization, motivation, or executive-function needs. Familiarity with homeschool education, multidisciplinary teaching, curriculum tailoring, and progress-monitoring systems.
