They also coordinate care with families and service providers while maintaining accurate clinical documentation and records.

Bethany for Children & Families in Davenport, Iowa is currently looking for an energetic, self-motivated School-Based, Mental Health Therapist to join our Behavioral Health team full time starting with the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.

School-Based, Mental Health Therapists work within their assigned primary or secondary schools and enjoy the flexibility associated with a school-year calendar!

Work schedule is 9.5 months a year, with a 9.5-month salary paid out over 12 months.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling and be eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa. Supervision toward independent licensure may be provided at no expense to the licensee.

Salary Range

$41,800.00 to $53,800.00 (9.5-month work schedule paid out over 12 months) based upon current licensure

School-Based, Mental Health Therapist Performance Objectives

Provides clinical therapy for a specific client caseload referred from schools, medical providers, the Iowa Department of Human Services, and other community referral sources. Ensures consent for mental health treatment is informed and that related legal consent documents and releases of information are completed in accordance with agency policies and/or procedure. Conducts a mental health evaluation to establish medical necessity, diagnosis, and identify the needs of clients referred for services. Based upon evaluation, develops, implements, and monitors the client’s treatment plan. Renders services and facilitates appropriate evidence-based therapeutic interventions in accord with established medical necessity and consistent with the client’s treatment or service plan. Documents service delivery and maintains clinical records and all required data and reports as dictated by agency policy, legal, and regulatory requirements, and files all necessary reports in a timely manner. Coordinates services through collaborative efforts which involve families, schools, case managers, hospitals, community resources, medical and non-medical providers, vocational, social, and support services. Ensures continuity of care, in accord with agency policy, by accounting for and addressing relevant clinical risk factors and effectively managing transitions of care (admission/discharge). Completes discharge summaries for clients in accord with agency policy. Meets regularly with the assigned clinical supervisor for oversight, direction, support, and review of current caseload, which may include the review of specific case progress in relationship to the treatment plan. Participates in all required agency training and staff development opportunities. Provides training and consultation to other staff members and service colleagues through in-service training and consultation, as requested. Maintains a positive relationship with agency, funding, and referral sources through the provision of quality services and timely responses to questions, concerns, and issues. Complies with all rules, regulations, codes, and legal requirements assigned by various licensing and accreditation entities. Demonstrates a commitment to ethical practices and maintain the highest level of professional integrity in adherence to the agency’s corporate compliance program. Performs and carries out all other duties as assigned.

Requirements: The School-Based, Mental Health Therapist must have:

1. The ability to fulfill all of the regulatory requirements for the State of Iowa as required by state and federal law. This includes successful completion of the background check investigation as well as the office of the inspector general exclusionary screening.

2. A valid driver’s license, meet qualifications to operate agency vehicles, and have acceptable auto insurance coverage.

3. The required Education and Licensure for a

Therapist I

  • Have a Master’s Degree in a mental health field including, but not limited to, psychology, counseling and guidance, psychiatric nursing, or social work. Hold a current, unrestricted initial license (tLMHC, LMSW, LPC, LSW) in the State of Iowa.
  • Therapist II: Have a Master’s Degree in a mental health field including, but not limited to, psychology, counseling and guidance, psychiatric nursing, or social work. Hold a current, unrestricted independent license (LISW, LMHC, LCPC, LCSW) in the State of Iowa. 4. The required Experience and Skills Intermediate computer skills, including MS Word and Excel and the ability to learn other software programs, as applicable.
