  • Summary: Applies in-depth knowledge of a wide range of maternal and neonatal acute and chronic conditions that may affect breastfeeding. Assesses and manages complex lactation problems and assists the mother in attaining her individual breastfeeding goals. Functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary health care team as a consultant, educator, and mentor to nurses, health care professionals and patients. .

  • Responsibilities: Provides direct care for inpatient mother-baby couplets, and neonates. Develops, organizes, implements, evaluates and revises preparation for childbirth, newborn care, sibling preparation, postpartum, and breastfeeding classes for expectant and new parents. Develops, organizes, implements, evaluates and revises preceptorships, in-service programs, workshops and continuing education classes on topics related to breastfeeding management for nursing staff, medical staff, and students of health care-related fields (RN, ARNP, CNM, MD, RD, etc.) as well as staff education materials. Assists in the management of the breast pump rental station. Manages work flow in the perinatal education department. The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position and additional duties may be assigned.
