About the role

The Behavior Specialist will collaborate with special education teachers to implement ABA-based behavior management strategies and provide direct intervention support to students. They are responsible for conducting functional behavior assessments, developing behavior improvement plans, and providing professional development to campus staff.

Position Summary

The Behavior Specialist will work with special education teachers to develop and implement ABA based-behavior management strategies in classrooms and to provide specific behavior intervention supports to students. They will assist campus staff in developing functional behavior assessments, behavior improvement plans, positive behavior supports, and behavior management plans.

Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional and Program Management Model positive behavioral intervention strategies for teachers to use the classroom setting Assist teachers in analyzing behavior and developing correlating strategies for intervention Assist teachers and special education staff in the implementation of behavior strategies Complete FBAs and BIPs when requested by ARD committee Provide professional development as requested Provide student and teacher observations to assist in the development of behavior interventions and strategies, FBAs and BIPs Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills Student Management Demonstrate support for the district’s student management policies and expected student behavior related to special education program Communication and Community Relations Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community members. Required/Preferred Education: Master’s degree from accredited university preferred BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) Certification preferred Required/Preferred Experience: Two years of special education classroom teaching experience Required/Preferred Skills: Ability to work well with others, leadership skills, desire to be a part of a team, willingness to travel to campuses, ability to plan professional development, willingness to further develop skills as necessary Physical Functions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less 50 pounds) Environment: Frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress Personal Qualities & Values Passionately Committed: With humility and curiosity, we seek to know more about our core purpose; seek to share (with each other and with others externally as an advocate); seek to live the mission ourselves with relentless pursuit and intrinsic motivation; seek to understand our work and how it serves the mission…which should result in getting the right stuff done with measurable results because we love actualization – not just the theory A Servant’s Heart: The foundational element of having a servant’s heart is the acknowledgement of inherent dignity in their fellow human. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately. Requirements

Candidates should possess a Master's degree and a BCBA certification is preferred. A minimum of two years of special education classroom teaching experience is required.
