About the role

Role Summary The Practicum Instructor provides supervision and mentorship to an MSW practicum student, ensuring the placement meets the educational and competency requirements set by the School of Social Work while supporting quality service delivery to older adult clients.

Qualifications

  • MSW from a CSWE-accredited program
  • Minimum 2 years post-MSW practice experience, with experience in aging/gerontological services
  • Willingness to complete any required practicum-instructor training and documentation for the student through the School’s online program.
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1 hour of weekly group supervision and 1 hour of monthly individual supervision to each of four students.
  • Help students connect day-to-day tasks (assigned by the Task Supervisor) to social work theory, values, and ethical practice
  • Guide the student's application of gerontological practice knowledge (e.g., cognitive decline, caregiver dynamics, end-of-life care, elder abuse/neglect, benefits navigation, ageism, program planning)
  • Facilitate reflection on ethical challenges, professional boundaries, structural inequalities, and self-of-the-social-worker issues arising in the placement
  • Review cases work for social work content and ethical reasoning
  • Coordinate with the on-site Task Supervisor to stay informed of the student's daily activities and any emerging concerns
  • Complete practicum learning plans and evaluations of student competencies as required by the school
  • Serve as liaison between the student, agency Task Supervisor, and faculty practicum liaison

Requirements

Candidates must hold an MSW from a CSWE-accredited program and possess at least two years of post-MSW practice experience in aging or gerontological services. They must also be willing to complete required practicum-instructor training and documentation.
