About the role

The coordinator reviews documentation to determine reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities and acts as a primary resource for faculty and staff regarding disability rights. They also facilitate the interactive accommodation process and provide training on accessibility standards across the university community.

Overview

Quinnipiac University's invites applications for a Coordinator of Accessibility Services to work with a broad range of undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities and their faculty.

In this role you will ensure that students with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodations as dictated by Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, as amended in 2008 and Section 504/508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Reasonable accommodations can include but are not limited to academic, housing, residential life, parking, dining and other areas.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and analyzes documentation (which can include psycho-educational, neuropsychological assessments and/or medical reports, 504 plans and IEPs) and determines and recommends reasonable accommodations
  • Within the interactive accommodation process, meets individually with students to discuss accommodations, assess need for reevaluation of accommodations, foster student self-advocacy, and improve student communication with instructors/staff throughout the student's academic enrollment.
  • Maintains records on students with disabilities including a student's request for reasonable accommodations, permission for release of information, notes of meetings with the student, and psycho-educational, neuropsychological and medical reports
  • Acts as a resource for faculty, staff, administration and students regarding the ADA, Section 504/508 and general disability rights advocacy. Will provide guidance and training as needed.
  • Acts as a resource for faculty, staff, administration and students regarding adaptive and assistive technology needs
  • Serves as the first contact/referral person for students with disabilities, and their parents, to appropriately answer questions and provide appropriate guidance
  • Maintains current knowledge regarding disability law and best practice
  • Collaborates and communicates with Student Affairs, Student Life, University Counseling, Associate Deans, Registrar, Deans, Academic Affairs, Chairs Program Managers and Directors, University Legal, individual Faculty Members, Facilities, University Psychiatrist, Student’s Evaluators(s), and Student’s Support Provider(s), but not limited to these contacts
  • Supports the Office of Student Accessibility and the Learning Commons Department in delivering disability-related training to the Quinnipiac community, including presentations at faculty meetings, student orientations, and other professional development sessions

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required special education, psychology, counseling
  • Masters degree preferred

Qualifications

  • 3- 5 years of experience preferably in Higher Education (post- K to 12) working with students with disabilities is highly desired
  • Knowledge of the ADAAA, Section 504 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred
  • Knowledge of web/graphical user interface strategies and adaptive/assistive computer hardware and software preferred
  • Understanding of Universal Design for Learning Strategies
  • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite and other standard productivity tool
  • Experience delivering trainings or presentations to campus stakeholders
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds.
