The Permanent Substitute Teacher provides instructional continuity by covering short-term and long-term absences across various subjects and grade levels. They are responsible for maintaining a safe, engaging classroom environment, managing student records, and collaborating with faculty to support school operations.
The Permanent Substitute Teacher works for the duration of the school year and is available to substitute teach in classrooms where a Classroom teacher is absent. This role can expect to cover a variety of short-term and long-term assignments in all subjects based upon the Siena System’s needs. They will be primarily located at Saint Catherine’s High School but may be called upon to support other Siena System Schools grades K-8.

Build a classroom culture that is engaging and limits opportunities for students to act out. Monitor student behavior in an effort to be preventative instead of reactive as best as is possible.
Observe and respond accordingly to the social and emotional needs of each student.
Create a physical learning space that is safe, developmentally appropriate, and supports the facilitation of the curriculum.
Ensure that students understand the purpose of instruction.
Provide clear and thorough explanations of content.
Provide learning activities that are relevant to student interests and abilities.
Utilize a variety of effective instructional practices and methodologies to deliver content.
Continually seek different approaches to meet the needs of diverse learners in the classroom.
