ABOUT THE ROLE As the Sports Instructor, you will assist in implementing and organizing a recreational league or clinic for the upcoming season. You will strive to deliver a quality program where participants can learn the fundamentals of the assigned sport. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Knows and understands all YMCA policies and procedures and ensures that all these procedures are always consistently enforced. Assists as needed in emergency situations and as outlined in emergency procedures. Continuously exhibits honesty, caring, respect, responsibility, reliability, flexibility, maturity, and good decision-making skills. Engages with members, participants, co-workers, directors, and volunteers positively and professionally. Ensures participants’ safety. Implements programs for recreational league and clinic play. Effectively leads a program utilizing training curriculums. Attends all staff meetings and trainings as required. Promotes and represents the mission and core values of the YMCA of WNC. Displays a professional, courteous, and tactful demeanor at all times. Always strive to display a positive and enthusiastic attitude. Performs all other duties as assigned. ABOUT YOU Qualifications Must be at least 14 years of age or older. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to work with and supervise peers, encourage and motivate youth, and maintain a safe environment. Must have a general understanding of sports, rules of the game, and interest in working with sporting leagues. PHYSICAL ASPECTS OF THE JOB The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to bend, stand, stoop, and walk for extended periods of time throughout the facility. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to supervise program activities.
