About the role

The Academic Mentor provides high-dosage, targeted tutoring to high school students in small groups to address learning gaps and reinforce essential skills. They are also responsible for monitoring student progress, documenting attendance, and communicating effectively with teachers and school leadership.

About the Team The Virtual Preparatory Academy of Florida is a K–12 tuition-free online public school serving students statewide.

At VPA Florida, we provide a safe and nurturing environment where every student has the opportunity to be understood and inspired through a customized learning path that includes live interactive sessions and personalized teacher support.

The Academic Mentor provides high-dosage, targeted tutoring to high school students based on their individual academic needs.

The position provides small-group support to reinforce essential skills, address learning gaps, and accelerate academic growth and success.

Please note – while this is an online school position and all instruction occurs virtually, travel and face to face attendance will be required several times per year to support in person state testing and student events.

Eligibility

  • Open to residents of Florida About the Opportunity Provide consistent, high-dosage tutoring to high school students in small groups. Deliver targeted support in English, high school mathematics, and other core academic areas based on student needs and data. Use provided instructional materials and strategies to reinforce classroom learning and address identified skill gaps. Build positive relationships that promote student engagement, confidence, academic ownership, and persistence. Support students in developing effective study habits, organization, and strategies for academic success. Monitor and document student attendance, participation, and academic progress. Communicate student progress and concerns with teachers and school leadership. Participate in training and follow school procedures for student safety, confidentiality, and professionalism. About You High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education preferred. Teaching degree or certification is not required. Experience working with high school-aged students preferred. Experience in tutoring, mentoring, youth programs, education, or a similar setting preferred. Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Patient, dependable, and committed to supporting student achievement and postsecondary success. Comfortable using technology and virtual learning platforms. Requirements
