The substitute teacher is responsible for instructing students using lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher across kindergarten through 8th grade. They must also maintain a productive learning environment, enforce school safety procedures, and supervise students outside the classroom.

Essential Duties Work in the absence of the teacher to aid students in understanding content/subject matter.
Follow procedures, lesson plans and curriculum as designated by the classroom teacher.
Utilize classroom management skills to maintain a productive, healthy learning environment.
Enforce and comply with administration policies, rules and safety procedures set by the school.
Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement teaching.
Maintain confidentiality per FERPA.
Oversee students outside of the classroom including in the hallways and cafeteria.
Take attendance and document daily notes.
Ensure the classroom is kept clean and orderly.
Create a summary of the day for the teacher for when he/she returns.
Salary and Benefits
The 2026-2027 substitute pay rate is $160 per full day (more than four hours) and $80 per half day (four hours or less). PCK Substitute Rates are subject to change and can be found on our website.
