Position Summary

Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County (ACADC) is dedicated to providing a classical, content-rich education that fosters both intellectual and moral development. We are seeking enthusiastic and dependable Substitute Teachers to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining instructional continuity and supporting our mission of cultivating thoughtful, morally grounded students in a nurturing and excellence-driven environment. Essential

Duties & Responsibilities

Maintain a positive, productive learning environment tailored to students' needs. Implement lesson plans and instructional activities in the absence of the regular teacher. Ensure all ACADC policies are observed during classroom activities. Create and maintain a safe, respectful classroom conducive to learning. Supervise students at all times, including outdoor activities, recess, lunch, and carpool duties. Be familiar with emergency procedures, including fire, severe weather, and tornado protocols. Take attendance, review teacher notes, and follow lesson plans. Maintain confidentiality in compliance with FERPA guidelines. Adapt to varying classroom circumstances and demonstrate sound judgment. Arrive 30 minutes prior to assignment and remain on duty for the full duration, including teacher planning periods. Leave detailed notes for the regular teacher on any issues or observations from the day. Complete all assigned training in a timely and accurate manner. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal. Required Skills & Abilities Bachelor's Degree preferred. Commitment to ACADC's mission, vision, and policies. Strong moral character aligned with the principles of ordered liberty and constitutional self-government. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Proficiency in written and spoken English. Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with superior organizational skills. Patience, reliability, and a positive attitude. Punctuality and consistent attendance. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 15 pounds. Ability to move around the classroom and adjust posture to engage with students. Ability to supervise outdoor activities safely. Mandatory Background Checks: In alignment with our commitment to student safety, all candidates are required to undergo a biometric background check, which will require fingerprinting. Please be aware that certain findings in the background check may disqualify a candidate from employment in a school setting. These may include, but are not limited to:

Convictions for violent crimes, such as assault or domestic violence.

Convictions for offenses against children, including abuse or endangerment.

Drug-related offenses, particularly those involving the distribution or trafficking of controlled substances.

Certain felony convictions, depending on their nature and recency.

History of certain misdemeanors that may raise concerns about a candidate's suitability for working in an educational environment. Submission of this application signifies your consent to this process and understanding of these criteria.
