About the role

The teacher will implement engaging academic enrichment activities and provide individualized tutoring for middle school students. They are also responsible for managing the classroom environment, mentoring students, and maintaining compliance with licensing regulations.

Seeking teachers who will effectively implement engaging academic enrichment activities for students of our Reaching Higher Afterschool Program at:

  • Washington Woods Middle School, Holt, MI
  • Working with students in 5th & 6th grade

Program runs Monday through Thursday during the school year for approximately 2-2.5 hours daily. (You would work whichever days work well for your schedule)

Education / Certifications / Experience

  • Bachelor degree in child related field: Elementary education, secondary education, physical education or other teaching related fields.
  • Teaching Certification Required (This does not have to be active/current. You must have held a teaching certification at some point in your career that can be verified on the Michigan Online Educator Verification System)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of youth and ability to teach effectively.
  • At least 2 years experience working with youth, in a structured program setting.
  • Shall be a person of good character who possesses the health, emotional stability, maturity and strength to carry out assigned duties.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create lesson plans to implement engaging academic enrichment activities.
  • Assist youth with homework and provide individualized tutoring.
  • Conduct yourself in a manner to serve as a mentor and role model.
  • Manage classroom in a safe and productive way.
  • Cultivates positive relationships with students, families, and school-day personnel.
  • Creates and leads parent and family education and service events.
  • Attends all mandatory meetings and completes all paperwork as required.
  • Participates in 18 hours of professional development per year that meets licensing requirements.
  • Performs duties in a manner that ensures compliance with Child Day Care Licensing rules and regulations.
  • Ensures program operates in a way that follows industry quality standards and in accordance with the grant.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in a child-related field and possess a teaching certification. Additionally, at least two years of experience working with youth in a structured setting is required.
