Evaluate responses to test questions by California teacher candidates while maintaining professional scoring standards. Participate in consensus scoring activities and engage in strategies to reduce personal bias during the evaluation process.

Qualifications

  • For Languages other than English examinations, a scorer must
  • be a native speaker of the language with a college/university degree,
  • OR hold a graduate degree in the appropriate language,
  • or hold a Single Subject Teaching Credential in the appropriate language,
  • or be a college or university educator who holds a degree in the language and/or has responsibility for teaching or advising students in that field,
  • or have an authorization to teach the corresponding language in California public schools,
  • or have served as a Single Subject Assessments for Teaching scorer in the appropriate language,
  • or have served as a CTC-approved member of the appropriate CSET language test development and/or standard setting committee.

  • Overall Responsibilities
  • Evaluate responses to test questions by California teacher candidates
  • Internalize scoring standards, participate in discussions, and engage with other scorers in consensus scoring activities
  • Recognize and discuss various types of bias (e.g., implicit bias, cultural bias, leniency bias, central tendency bias, halo effect) and effect strategies to reduce personal biases in scoring
  • Meet quality and productivity requirements established for the scoring program, including passing a qualifying test before scoring

  • Rate of $17.50 per hour

  • Working Conditions Spanish coring sessions take place during the week Monday through Friday.
  • Spanish scoring sessions will occur on 3-4 consecutive days roughly every 8 weeks and scorers can expect to work 7-28 hours in that time.
  • The scoring day runs from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m., including training.
  • Scoring sessions for German, Filipino, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Vietnamese will be one day each twice a year in September and May.
  • The scoring day runs from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m., including training.
  • You can expect to work 4-8 hours each session depending on the number of candidates testing.
  • Training takes place before scoring begins.
  • There may be a brief orientation meeting before the day of scoring occurs.
