Position Summary

The Physical Education (PE) Teacher is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring effective physical education instruction for each assigned student. The PE Teacher is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of individualized student support plans developed by each student’s classroom team.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement daily group and individualized lesson plans for each student utilizing provided curriculum and supplemental materials 2.
  • Implements Student Support Plans (SSP) in collaboration with the classroom team 3.
  • Develop and implement a classroom/behavioral management system 4.
  • Implement school wide policies, procedures and interventions 5.
  • Demonstrates a proficient level of cultural sensitivity.

  • Communication 1.
  • Writes and speaks clearly in a professional manner on a level appropriate for the intended recipient.
  • 2.
  • Communicate with parents and home districts regarding student progress, meetings, and visits in various communication mediums.

  • Documentation 1.
  • Complete lesson plans weekly.

  • Complete grades weekly.
  • 3.
  • Complete report cards quarterly.

  • Complete designated assessment forms as required.

  • Receive supervision from and actively communicate with supervisor on an ongoing basis throughout the week by phone, email, written message and when possible, in person regarding program matters.

  • Follows financial constraint of the classroom/school budget.

  • Serves periodically on program committees, with the approval of the Program Director.

  • Attends periodically local, state, or national conferences and workshops, with the approval of the Program Director.

  • Provides in-service training to Pressley Ridge programs, with the approval of the Program Director.

  • Obtains and maintains professional certification as required by Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE).

  • Risk Management and Safety 1.
  • Detects and remediate, with approval of Coordinator, if necessary, any potentially dangerous environmental conditions.

  • Implements school wide policies, procedures, and interventions.
  • 3.
  • Understands the threat assessment process.
  • 4.
  • Follows designated program policy regarding the documentation of critical incidents.
  • 5.
  • Follows program-designated procedures for all physical contact with students.
  • 6.
  • Follows program-designated procedures for student illness and injury, including arranging necessary medical care and informing appropriate persons of the situation, and documenting the injury/illness and actions taken.
  • 7.
  • Assist other staff, as needed, in interventions (TCI, Ukeru) to protect students and staff from injury.
  • 8.
  • Transports students when needed and maintain safe driving procedures.

Working Conditions

1. Physical Demands

1. This position requires operating a keypad device 25% of the day and electronic/office equipment 25% of the day. Fingers, thumbs, hands, wrists, elbows, legs and feet are used 50% of the day. The lower and upper torso is used 50% of the day. Employee must meet minimum requirements for hearing, speech, and vision. For positions in the School for the Deaf, hearing and speech are not required but ASL proficiency is (see qualifications above). Walking is required 50% of the day. Standing occurs 50% of the day. Sitting happens 50% of the day. Reaching above the shoulder as well as bending and twisting are performed 50% of the day. This function routinely lifts 15 pounds, 4 times per day. The maximum lift is 50 pounds, 2 times per day. Transports clients 25% of overall time. The position requires the ability to implement physical interventions and meet the physical demands of TCI. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. 2.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in physical education and a valid Pennsylvania State Teacher Certification. Additionally, a valid driver's license and the ability to pass required state, FBI, and child abuse background clearances are mandatory.
