The SI Leader will facilitate interactive online sessions to support student learning and course content mastery. They are also responsible for integrating effective study strategies and completing administrative tasks as assigned by the Director of Online Tutoring Services.
The Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader position works collaboratively with the Director of Online Tutoring Services in providing comprehensive and integrated academic support to students.
The SI Leader will impact the retention of students through providing supplemental instruction for students enrolled in online sections of certain course(s).
The Academic Success Center (ASC), under the College of Applied Studies and Academic Success strives to support the academic success of residential and online Liberty University students by providing free supplemental instruction for various courses each semester.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities 1.
Lead multiple online Supplemental Instruction sessions each week to create interactive student discussion on difficult course content (40%).
2.
Create interactive activities appropriate for online sessions in order to engage students in the session and the course content rather than simply lecturing students (40%).
3.
Integrate effective course-specific study and learning strategies to maximize students’ potential for academic progress (10%).
4.
Participate in mandatory SI Leader Orientation, training sessions, and scheduled meetings as required by the Director of Tutoring Services (5%).
5.
Complete SI-related administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Online Tutoring Services (5%).
Qualifications and credientials
Current Residential undergraduate or graduate student "A" or "B" in the course you wish to tutor Cumulative LU GPA of at least 3.0 Good communication and interpersonal skills with individuals from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds Enthusiasm for ministering to and helping students improve their knowledge of course content and effective study habits Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, punctuality, and organization Appropriate and professional behavior
Letter of recommendation from the instructor of the course(s) Previous tutoring experience An "A" in each course you wish to tutor Excellent communication skills ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES ESSENTIAL TO THE FUNCTION OF THE JOB Communication and Comprehension Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information. Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner. Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates. Strong organizational skills. Excellent computer skills. Problem Solving Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Physical and Sensory Abilities Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
