Part-Time advanced multivariable calculus faculty: 2026–2027 Academic Year

Established in 1922, The Stony Brook School is a co-ed, Christian, college preparatory boarding and day school situated on a beautiful 55-acre campus on the north shore of Long Island in New York. Serving students in grades 7–12, The Stony Brook School is known around the world as an institution that prizes both academic rigor and authentic Christian faith. With talented students from around the country and around the globe coming to us from a variety of faith backgrounds, potentially world-changing ministry opportunities abound.

The Stony Brook School is seeking an experienced and engaging educator to teach one section of Advanced Multivariable Calculus during the 2026–2027 academic year.

This full-year course builds on AP Calculus and introduces students to advanced topics including vectors and the geometry of space, vector-valued functions, partial derivatives, gradients and optimization, multiple integrals, line and surface integrals, and major results of vector calculus including Green's Theorem, Stokes' Theorem, and the Divergence Theorem. The course emphasizes rigorous problem solving, mathematical reasoning, and the beauty and coherence of higher mathematics.

Schedule and compensation

Regular class meetings

Tuesdays and

Thursdays, 8:00–9:20 a.m.

Mondays, 1:56–2:34 p.m.

Academic year: August 24, 2026–May 28, 2027

  • The position follows The Stony Brook School academic calendar. Scheduled breaks and no-class periods affecting this course include:
  • September 28: No classes
  • October 26–30: Mini-Course Week (no official class meetings)
  • November 23–30: Thanksgiving break/no classes
  • December 18–January 4: Christmas and New Year break
  • January 18: MLK Day of Service - no regular class
  • February 15–26: No classes
  • March 29: Easter Monday - no classes

Compensation

$6,000–$8,000 for the academic year, depending on qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidate will possess

  • A bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Education, or a related field, with an advanced degree strongly preferred
  • Strong command of multivariable calculus and vector calculus
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience, preferably working with advanced high school or undergraduate students
  • High levels of energy and enthusiasm, coupled with a strong capacity to engage and challenge talented students
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Eagerness to serve in a faith-based educational environment that emphasizes faithful Christian scholarship and character formation
  • Proven experience working collaboratively with a team of educators
  • Ability to interact professionally with parents and school community members
  • A demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning
