Job Summary

The Group Exercise Instructor – Pilates Reformer provides safe, engaging, and evidence-based Pilates Reformer classes that promote strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, and overall wellness for University Recreation participants. Instructors design and adapt classes to accommodate participants with varying experience levels while emphasizing proper technique, body awareness, alignment, and injury prevention. Through individualized coaching and positive participant interactions, instructors foster a welcoming and inclusive environment while serving as ambassadors for University Recreation Fitness Programs and Services.

Required

Minimum Qualifications

Current University of Alabama graduate or undergraduate student. Pilates instructor NCPT certification or training from a nationally recognized certifying organization, such as Balanced Body, Polestar Pilates, The Pilates Center Boulder, Streamline Pilates, BASI, Peak Pilates. Must have current American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid certification, or ability to complete ARC certification requirements within six (6) weeks of employment.

Skills and Knowledge

In-depth understanding and application of fitness methodologies and training techniques. Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and exercise science to guide participants safely and effectively. Excellent communication skills to instruct and motivate individuals or groups during fitness sessions. Customer-focused attitude with the ability to provide a positive and encouraging environment for participants.

Preferred Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience teaching Pilates Reformer classes.

Enrollment Requirements

Applicants must meet enrollment requirements to be eligible for on-campus student employment. Applicants must be enrolled in a UA degree program and meet minimum credit hour requirements during the academic year: Undergraduate Students must be registered for at least 6 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; Graduate Students must be registered for at least 4.5 credit hours during fall/spring semesters; International Students must be registered full-time (Undergraduate = 12 credit hours, Graduate = 9 credit hours) during fall/spring semesters. Enrollment requirements must be maintained for the duration of on-campus employment. Individual hiring departments and programs may also have additional eligibility requirements for employment.
