Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: Grant funded part time position to advise new and continuing students participating in the KCP Morris Hood Educator Development (MHED) program on curriculum requirements, academic achievement, course scheduling, and university policies and procedures. Coordinate with First Year Transition Coordinator in implementing retention-based initiatives for KCP MHED students. Employment in this position is contingent upon grant funding and will continue through the end of the grant period. This grant-funded position is funded through September 1, 2029. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide information and assistance to students concerning academic programs, curricula, academic requirements, and related policies and procedures. Annually recruit new MHED eligible students. Advise students in the selection of an academic program and related course selection. Assist targeted KCP MHED student populations to monitor their academic progress. Maintain student records pertaining to academic advisement services for MHED. Participate in programs and services for new students (e.g., orientation programs). Establish and maintain regular contact with targeted students. Provide appropriate assistance and intervention support services. Direct students toward appropriate support services/centers and MHED staff in tracking the academic progress towards general studies completion, academic and career goals, and graduation for all students. Monitor and approve drop-add course activity. Maintain communication with all University support services (Enrollment Management, Multicultural Student Services, Student Affairs, The Learning Commons Tutoring Centers, and School University Partnership Office). Generate reports for KCP MHED that reflect student progress on a regular basis. Prepare programming grant reports. Hire and train students. Assist in the financial management of grant funds. Assist in the implementation and administration of the MHED program. Serve on committees as required. Travel during recruitment season, as necessary. Perform other duties as assigned SUPERVISION RECEIVED: This position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Education. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: The position shares supervisory responsibilities of grant-funded student employees.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field One year of relevant and related work experience. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational and prioritization skills. Ability to work with a high level of discretion and autonomy. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software quickly. Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

King Chavez Parks (KCP) Future Faculty Fellow Master’s degree in a related field WORKING CONDITIONS: Duties are generally performed on campus, generally inside, and not exposed to adverse conditions.
